![]() The unique experience that I would like to highlight is their brunch experience that I have enjoyed twice. I am not a sommelier just yet, but I have not sent a glass back yet. They offer an awesome gourmet salad bar with an assortment of crusty breads, cheeses, sliced meats and salads. The unique feature of Zed 451 is that they serve entrees similarly the way meat is served at Brazilian steakhouses. In the month of January alone, I have been there 3 times. I’ve even proclaimed that it is my favorite restaurant. Ok I must admit, I have been to Zed 451 several times over the last 3 years. Tonight I enjoyed Roasted Duck Curry from Ruby of Siam. I am slowly venturing out more and more into the world of duck. Will I try it again? Yes, preferably at a a higher end venue. I had never tasted foie gras before so I have no other experience to compare it to. The consistency was not something I was prepared for. The duck sausage had a good flavor, the foie gras is the stand out feature. ![]() I love ANYTHING with a hint of truffle, no matter what form it is in. It is also famous because it has gotten a ton of press, most notably on “Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations”. This “hot dog” is famous because Doug kept it on his menu during the famous Chicago foie gras ban. I definitely stood in a line that wrapped around the restaurant for about 45 minutes until I was even able to glance at the menu I was on a mission, I ordered the famous Foie Gras and Sauternes Duck Sausage with Truffle Aioli, Foie Gras Mousse and Fleur de Sel with a side of Duck Fat Fries. My journey began at Hot Doug’s, The Sausage Superstore and Encased Meat Emporium. When I hear people talk about duck, they mention the high fat content. I have been told of tea smoked duck, peking duck and of course, foie gras. I’ll have to check on that and get back to ya. Well, I enjoy turkey and eat tons of chicken, so why wouldn’t I like duck? I don’t have many memories of eating duck in my life. Every cooking competition show and good food appreciation programs brag about the awesomeness of duck. I consider myself a rookie because, while I have an adventurous appetite, there is so much I have yet to experience. Yes, I am a self admitted foodie, a rookie foodie at that. And because the prices on the menu are so affordable, sitting at the lounge with a friend, or a few, and splitting about 4 appetizers and drinks will not only be a fun night, but very affordable! Ok, on the food: it was not only delicious, but the portions were perfect! Not tiny portions, not burritos-as-big-as-your-head, but perfect. Especially for two ladies who are non-profit professionals, but love to live the baller lifestyle! Also, the price of the food and drink in the lounge is extremely affordable. If you are a lover of sangria like me, I would recommend trying this before it is off the menu. I myself am not a big drinker, but the one item that I LOVE is their fall sangria: a mix of Merlot, cinnamon and apple juice. Before I review the actual food, I would like to comment on what makes the lounge area so wonderful. My most recent adventure was with, surprise, Melissa! We ordered the Pad Thai tacos and braised short rib sliders. Since that November night, I have made it a point to visit Zed twice a month. He also graciously shared some of Zed’s delicious bites with us. Not only did he introduce himself to the group I was with, but he spent well over an hour introducing us to the Zed experience, sharing background on what Zed is, and shared his passion for Zed. That was the night we met Chef Patrick Quakenbush (pictured below). And now, I go there too much! In November, after volunteering for the Parade of Lights, Zed 451 hosted the after party. Up until November of 2010, I had never been to Zed. From the first day we met, we knew it was fate, seeing that almost every conversation started with, “oh my God, we have to go to (fill in the blank of a fabulous Chicago restaurant)!”Īlso, since I met Melissa, she would always talk about Zed 451. I am even more excited that Melissa and I are writing this blog together. ![]() Hello everyone! This is my first time contributing to a blog, and I am so excited.
